Nottely Marina is a proud member of the TVA Clean Marina Program. The TVA Clean Marina Program participation educates marina operators on how to conduct themselves in a manner that enhances the natural environment while providing visitors with a clean boating experience. The marina has implemented several new practices over the years the be a better TVA Clean Marina.
Nottely Marina has changed all cleaning products used on or near the water to biodegradable, safer options to limit our impact on water quality. We are installing solar lighting as the older electric bulbs need replaced, encourage solar panel use for battery charging, and have started recycling our cardboard at the Union County Recycling Center. The marina, also, prohibits fluid changes done in the water and have fuel/oil spill kits located throughout the property to be prepared for oil or fuel leaks should they occur. Fuel pads are changed often on our fuel pumps and the fuel filters are changed on a routine basis so your boat is getting the best fuel possible.
We test our fuel tank regularly for moisture and water, we have a fiberglass UST which we have line, leak, and tightness test done annually. Also, within the last 10 years we had an environmental impact test performed which showed zero petroleum present in or around the soil and water. Our tank levels are checked and recorded daily and reported SIRs to catch any leak as soon as possible and our pump is tested by the Department of Agriculture and registered with Georgia EPD. Required permits are placed inside the marina at the fuel dock. No self-serve fueling is allowed.
Nottely Marina encourages water friendly boat cleaning during season and on land cleaning in the off season. Keeping boats clean and covered helps reduce the need for harsh or toxic cleaners. Prevention is the best way to practice clean boating. Trash cans are readily available for customer use to prevent debris from entering the water. Also, encouraging regular engine maintenance and servicing helps prevent fuel leaks, bad fuel economy, and oil leaks. We provide informational brochures to visitors and marina customers highlighting the importance of cleaning boating, green boating, and best boating practices and safety.
Rarely, is something worth doing cheap and easy. Being a clean marina does have added costs, but we can only hope that our actions today improve the world of tomorrow and helps to educate the next generation on the importance of caring for our beautiful lands and waterways.
Nottely Marina is a proud member and supporter of the Lake Nottely Improvement Association (LNIA.)
LNIA is a wonderful organization that provides several outreach services to benefit the lake community and the most important of which are the two lake cleanups they sponsor each year which removes tons of debris and trash from Lake Nottely and the surrounding shorelines. These cleanups focus on trash, docks, and man-made debris.
The cleanups help reduce toxins leaching into the water from plastics and tires, removes potential boating and swimming hazards, and helps restore the natural beauty of Lake Nottely.
Please join LNIA today and be part of an awesome community doing wonderful things!
